Our story
Over 50 years in the making
From a small engine workshop in the 1970s to a nationwide network of branches, here is how Riequip has grown.
1970–2000
Building the Foundations
Founder Lindsay Wood began his career as a small engine mechanic before moving into equipment sales, developing the technical expertise and industry knowledge that would become the foundation of Riequip.
2000–2005
The Beginning of Riequip
In 2003, Lindsay purchased Rural Supplies, a small industrial equipment business in Lower Moutere, Nelson. The addition of Honda generators and pumps fuelled rapid growth, leading to larger premises on King Edward Street and the introduction of the name Rural & Industrial Equipment.
2005–2010
Growth and Rebranding
The business expanded its range to include generators, compaction equipment and concrete solutions. In 2009, the company officially became Riequip, reflecting its broader focus and growing customer base.
2010–2015
Expanding the Product Range
Riequip strengthened relationships with leading international manufacturers, adding brands such as Altrad Belle and Fireboss while relocating to larger facilities on Huffam Street, Lower Moutere, Nelson to support continued growth. 2014 saw the addition of sister company Safari Trailers to meet the need for tough, hot dipped galvanised steel trailers built to handle rough New Zealand back roads.
2015–2020
Expanding Nationwide
Riequip opened its Auckland branch in 2016, providing dedicated support to North Island customers. Continued growth saw the branch relocate to larger premises in Penrose, while new product ranges including Genmac generators, Cyclone mixers, Pro-Blast water blasters and Comet steam cleaners were introduced.
2020–2025
Strengthening Our Capability and New Facilities
The addition of Kato pumps and Geo-Tuff laser levels expanded Riequip's equipment offering. 2023 saw us opening a branch in Christchurch to better support our customers in the lower south. In 2024, Power Plant Supplies joined the group, and in 2025 the Lower Moutere, Nelson operation moved into its purpose built facility, creating capacity for future growth.
2026
Bigger Premises, Bigger Plans
Riequip Christchurch moved into its new Islington facility, providing much-needed room for continued growth. We also launched the Titan Envirogen generator range, bringing a new generation of power equipment to our customers.
