What Are Plate Compactors Used For?

When your project involves laying down a foundation, to get the best results you need to compact the earth and the material that you plan to lay over the top of it. Plate compactors work by using a large plate (usually made from steel), to exert force on the ground by vibrating rapidly. By using plate compactors on the ground surface, the force of the vibration will compact the soil, eliminating any air pockets so that you’ll avoid an uneven surface. It’s important to know what type of soil you’re dealing with on the job site, as this affects the way that it’s compacted and the results you will get. Plate compactors work across two common types of soil: granular soil which is from a fine sand to medium gravel and requires vibratory compaction, and cohesive soil which is counted as a fine grain soil like clay or soil with a high clay content (and cohesive strength), and cohesive soils require impact force to be compacted. Plate compactors can be used on granular soils which cover large, flat areas. These soils also include sand, stone dust, gravel, aggregates, cobblestones, and paving blocks.

Your Local Experts In Plate Compacting Equipment

Soil compaction will enhance the soil stability, increase load bearing capabilities, decrease soil settling, lower soil shrinkage, and can reduce any water seepage, contraction, or swelling. To get the best foundation you need the right plate compactor, and this depends on your job specifications. These specifications include the type of earth you’re working on, the type of material you’re laying down, and the thickness of the foundation you’ll be laying down. You’ll need to consider the size of the plate and how it vibrates to ensure the layers are uniform across the entire space. To have a chat about your need for plate compactors, call our customer service team today on 0800 378 478.
